The lastest version of Joomla! was announced during the weekend. This Joomla 1.5.10 [Wohmamni] is a seurity release. Joomla! Project encourages users of previous version to update as soon as posisble.

One low-level and one moderate-level security issue were fixed in this release. They are related to cross-site scripting and cross-site request forgery vulnerabilities in some core components. This release also includes other fixes across various parts of the system.

Joomla! Taiwan also immediately put Traditional Chinese language packs for frontend and administrator backend online for downloading.

Joomla! Project has released Joomla 1.5.9 [Vatani]. This is a security release, and users of earlier versions are encouraged to upgrade to this version at once.

One low-level and one high-level security issue were fixed in this release:

• High Priority: Directory Traversal. A crafted request can allow an attacker to view directory trees on the server. Note: contents of files cannot be edited or deleted, just viewed.
• Low Priority: SSL Session Token Disclosure. When running a site as SSL ONLY, if a non-SSL request is made, an attacker can obtain the session token. There is NO risk for Web sites that use both HTTP and HTTPS.

Other non-security related bugs found in various parts of the system are also fixed in this release. You can read its detail information and access the download at the official announcement page.

Yesterday (Nov. 10) a new version of Joomla! coded named Wohnaiki was released. This version 1.5.8 contains a number of bug fixes and two moderate-level security patches. In the past Joomla! has taken several awards in Packt Publishing's Open Source CMS Award. Unfortunately this year Joomla! was placed runner-up both in Overall Open Source CMS Award and Best Open Source PHP CMS Award. While this shows Open Source CMS arena is very alive and competitive, it also means Joomla! development team and community have to put more effort to get ahead of the pack. So lets congratulate all the winners and work harder to win next year's awards.

Joomla! 1.0.14 RC1 [Daybreak] is a security patch release announced on 2008-01-14. It addresses several security issues discovered in 1.0.13. Joomla! Team is asking for help testing this release. Even though this is a release candidate, not a stable release, they still suggest users to upgrade to this version after verified on a backup server.
